DYLAN // 18Y // NYC

I am Dylan Fender.

18, as of the time of me writing this!

Northern California.

NY is made of steel. Are you?

Yeah I'm super tough.

How would you describe your body?

Boyish, skinny, I suppose.

Given climate change, the Atlantic will rise. When will the first wave hit NY?

Whoa yeah, I was reading about this. Man, I can't tell the future, but they said something like 2020.

Who was your first love, how young were you?

Love is weird; I haven't felt like I was actually in love until my current girlfriend.

Ever crossed the Atlantic from Europe to NY (the sight of NY emerging in the distant blue)?

Is this a yes or no question? Yes, I have.

I find coffee at Ninth Street delicious. What’s your favorite coffee place in NY?

I haven't ingested an entire cup of coffee in my entire life. Maybe I can start, but I don't have too many energy problems. I like Lantern Hall near my apartment; it's a cute little cafe/bar. They have Mario Kart set up 24/7 as well. I mean, I don't know of any other cafes so that’s that.

What sound would you associate NY with?

Police bloops & blips, and honking.

What sound would you associate yourself with?

I asked my friends, rather. One said "ambient noises" and the other said "crackling fire".

Where are you now and what time is it?

I'm in “Beacon's Closet” in Greenpoint and it’s 4:07 PM.

 Where are you going next?

I'm headed to either Chinatown or a cafe near me for a cold drink!

 Are you in love?

I am indeed. Very much so. I never thought I would be so young, and I'm taking it a day at a time. I feel incredibly fortunate to have such an amazing person in my life.

What’s the last cocktail you drank, where?

I remember I had this cute drink called a “Pink Mink” at a "Fur Party" in midtown. That was quite a while ago.

I don't like drinking too much.

If NY was a person, would it be your mother, uncle, boy or girl friend, sister, brother, aunt?

It would just be a dude who's pretty harsh but relatively personable, and chain-smokes like there's no tomorrow.

More binoculars are sold in NY compared to any other place on Earth. What can you see from your place and what was the most memorable sight you’ve enjoyed from your windows?

I can see the city in the distance from my rooftop. My friends and I often watch the sunset and listen to lovely tunes, as well as take photos in the orange light.

NY’s foundations are archaic. Tubes are rusting. Steel is breaking. Do you feel the city is crumbling or is it constantly resurrecting? When was the last time you resurrected?

It sure looks like it's in a state of constant falling and repair. I'd say it's constantly resurrecting itself. I feel like I resurrect myself every time I wake up. It's a new day.

 What’s nasty about NY?

Honestly, with how many people there are in this small area, it's relatively clean. I'm quite impressed with how much upkeep goes into keeping the infrastructure working and somewhat clean. I'd say the prices here are the nastiest thing.

Where do you spend most of your time? Your favorite concert venue?

I spend most of my time at the apartment I'm staying at with my friend, reading or doing homework, as I'm still in university.

 Is Brooklyn still Brooklyn?

That's what my map says. I haven't been here long enough to know "True" Brooklyn.
