// KOMONO X ANTWERP FASHION DEPARTMENT //

KOMONO is proud to announce its official partnership with the fashion department of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp. For centuries, Antwerp has been the home to innovative fashion: from intricate lace to the game-changing Antwerp Six. Today, Antwerp remains a key city within the global fashion scene with the Royal Academy as the main incubator for new talent and innovative design. KOMONO has spawned from this hub of creativity and aesthetics, and brings the essence of Antwerp to the world.

KOMONO will work together with a selected number of master students in the creation of a capsule eyewear collection linked to the students’ personal work. Our mission is to aid the students’ exploration of innovative forms, their search for new colour combinations and their pursue for the original treatment of materials – and this related to the eyewear category. Workshops, given by our designers and product developers, will develop the students’ skills in 3D drawing/printing, tech sheets, material knowledge and manufacturing. The students will be given complete transparency and accountability as they will be involved from blank page to finished product.

// CAMPER To&ether first Women's Kiko Kostadinov //

KIKOXCAMPER_C_Logo.jpg

Featured as part of the designer’s debut S/S 2019 womenswear show in London, Kiko Kostadinov returns to Camper for a new Together collaboration that offers a glimpse into the future of textures and typologies.

Leading the womenswear collection under the Kiko Kostadinov brand, twin sisters Deanna and Laura Fanning combine innovative cutting, bold contouring, and an engineered approach to knitwear that aims to engage with the female form. Based on Camper’s Brooke heel, the young designers take a TWINS-inspired approach to the project, using asymmetry, unexpected materials, and extreme panelling to present a feminine style that is both audacious and elegant.

Available as both an ankle boot and a knee-high boot, the new collaboration reflects Kostadinov’s dedication to push the boundaries of contemporary design, rewriting the rules on women’s footwear with a powerful look that radiates sci-fi and futuristic.

Both styles will be introduced during London Women’s Fashion Week, with an exclusive preview happening at Dover Street Market London. Launching globally on March 19th, the collaboration will be available online at Camper.com and CamperLab stores in London, Paris, and New York City.

// SECOND ROUND //

Camper and designer Kiko Kostadinov team up for summer to present a selection of rugged styles based on the brand’s iconic, outdoors-inspired Teix boot.

For his second collaboration, the Bulgarian-born designer focuses on protection and functionality, presenting five men’s options with bold color blocking and easy-fit closing systems. Continuing his exploration of the “new outdoors” concept, Kostadinov channels his industrial inspiration into three distinct typologies this season: a low-top shoe, a thick-strapped moccasin, and a semi-open sandal. Chunky silhouettes and a safety-color palette of orange, yellow, and black further highlight the workwear approach behind the provocative designer’s latest Camper offering.

This time, Kiko Kostadinov has selected artist Eric N. Mack to create the imagery. The New York-based creative works with a variety of mediums, including paint, textiles, photographs, collage, and sculpture. Often working with recovered materials.

// KOMONO's Creative Fusions //

Involving other creative minds within their process is one of KOMONO’s strengths, along with the clarity of their vision. Asking 11 young creatives to interpret their Signature Collection watches was therefore a natural step, letting each designer, artist or illustrator express how the Signature watch relates to their own handwriting. The results combine the stylish and graphic nature of the watch with powerful artworks, underlining the timelessness and seductive appeal of the Signature series.

// NEW OUTDOORS //

Strongly influenced by modern-day uniforms and workwear, designer Kiko Kostadinov takes on everyday urban footwear in his debut Together collaboration.

For F/W 2018, Kostadinov embraces the concept of “new outdoors” by revisiting our archives and paying tribute to Camper Teix, our iconic trekking boot originally launched in 1997. Boasting extreme volume and a complex, multi-piece construction, Kostadinov reinvents the line this season with water-resistant Gore-Tex® technology and an updated, hiking-inspired silhouette.

Available in three distinct styles for men, the collaboration explores the fusion of performance and design, taking a bold step forward into the next generation of outdoor-inspired urban footwear.

// LACOSTE X IUCN //

For 70 years the International Union for Conservation of Nature has been fighting to protect the life of endangered species all over the world.

For 90 years the Lacoste crocodile has been displayed on the iconic polo shirts of the brand, after the nickname of its founder René Lacoste.

For a limited amount of time these two icons joined forces. The everlasting crocodile has been replaced by ten species facing the threat of extinction. There are only 1775 pieces available, the exact same number of animals left of the featured species.

Probably sold out as we speak, if only we would care as much as we shop.

// SAINT LAURENT SHIKI-IN //

Saint Laurent will reveal 16 unique pieces at colette, which are part of a special art and photography project by world renowned Japanese artist Nobuyoshi Araki. The artist captured Anja Rubik, integrating photography and painting techniques, exclusively for Saint Laurent and Anthony Vaccarello. The series, titled “Saint Laurent Shiki-in” (lust for color), merges elements of the world of Saint Laurent with the traditional themes of Araki’s work, a key figure in the modern world culture.

All of the pieces can be pre-ordered at colette through the Taka Ishii Gallery and will then be sent from Tokyo along with Araki’s label signature and certificate of authenticity.

Beginning on December 2nd and continuing through the 20th, the exhibition will be located on colette’s mezzanine, while the range of co-signed collector pieces will be displayed on the first floor.

// A TO Z //

The alphabet is undoubtedly the favourite area of expression of Mathias Augustyniak and Michael Amzalag, who have had fun redefining the outline of the iconic crocodile from "A to Z". Graphically redesigned according to the geometry of the letters composing the brand's name, the L stylises the crocodile's tail while the E represents its open mouth. The products in a capsule collection and a limited edition thus take on a new look for a time while these artists work with us.

// HONEST BY Y/PROJECT //

Honest By and Y/Project just launched a limited 6-piece collection: genderless, organic, responsible and transparent are the key words of this collaboration. It’s a second shot for Glenn Martens at Honest by after designing the first collection in 2012.

Bruno Pieters, Honest By founder, describes Y/Project as “…a very honest brand already. Glenn has built his team with a whole new generation of people. Very faithful, very loyal. He has the ability to take the best of what is offered to him and make it his own. He always appreciated what I was doing and was interested in it so is now already very conscious of the environment. Already for SS18 there was no leather in the show."

For his part, Glenn has followed Honest By since the beginning: “To me it has always been one of the most ground-breaking luxury brands in the industry. A lot of young, so called ‘hype brands’ are claiming they want to change fashion or break the industry. But only Honest By has challenged its core and has addressed that which really matters.”

// A.P.C. TRANSMISSION //

Jean Touitou publishes A.P.C. Transmission, a retrospective of the brand, personal scrapbook and visual diary with texts, invitations, postcards, campaigns, pictures of their stores and collaborations.

The A.P.C. founder describes this book as “an owner’s manual because that is what it is. You own this book now, here is how it works. First, I called the book Transmission for a very simple reason. I just want to pass information and feelings in a smooth way. As in the song ‘Pass the Dutchie’ if you will. I guess thisis going to be called the A.P.C. book, which is fine by me. Still, I’ll insist on calling it Transmission since, in today’s world, things disappear in some suffocating digital space. I thought that an actual book would be good for this search for a past that could be so easily lost if not transmitted in printed matter.

The book is made of three parts: “Percept”, a series of collage from Jean Touitou’s life before A.P.C.; “Written material”, texts written by J.T. to help readers understand what A.P.C. is; and “Catalogue Raisonné”, a portfolio of almost everything that has been done by A.P.C..

The Transmission T-shirts is available alongside the book. There is a printed picture of Jean Touitou on it wearing a T from the American Garage band called “Kenny and the Kasuals” from 1977. Jean was selling their records at the time through his mail-order record shop “Road Runner”. A picture of merch, used as merch.

// KOOL THING //

To celebrate the launch of their LA design atelier, & Other Stories teamed up with Sonic Youths former member Kim Gordon. The brand wished to work with Kim as they found themselves inspired by her creativity, style and artistic integrity.

Her ability to not conform is something that is very much encouraging for women all around the globe. She approached this collaboration in a very creative way and generated patterns based on colours and words, her favourite ones.

Her daughter Coco Gordon Moore is modelling the series of sweats and t-shirts she designed. She definitely inherited that one thing we all envy Kim for.

That kool thing, it’s a family thing.

This new era will make shine the brand’s heritage and will breathe new life into fashion.

// ERDEM STORY //

H&M revealed yesterday its new collab with Erdem. The Swedish brand and the London-based designer have developed a woman capsule collection but also a man one, a first shot for Erdem Moralıoğlu.

The collection will be very personal Erdem says: “The collection reinterprets some of the codes that have defined my work over the past decade. It’s also inspired by much of my youth, from the English films, ’90s TV shows and music videos I grew up watching to memories of the style that defined members of my family. Taking from these inspirations, I imagined a group of characters and friends off to the English countryside for the weekend. There’s a real play in the collection between something decidedly dressed-up and equally effortless.”

This new collab is a new chapter and will give people from all around the world the chance to experience their own ERDEM story. Now, we just have to wait till November to have it in our hands. Meanwhile, let's get delighted by the campaign shot by Baz Luhrmann.

// SPLIT ME //

Appearing on Instagram, his exclusive playground, Doug Abraham’s art is based around découpage and the reinterpretation of images. Better known by his account alias @bessnyc4, the artist’s work mixes fashion campaigns and pop culture photographs.

 Today, Diorsplit glasses are the subject of the artist’s reinterpretive vision, his use of superimposition echoing the play of lines and mirrors of the eyewear design that debuted in the ready-to-wear Spring-Summer 2016 show.  In a series of five short films, Doug Abraham creates a mash-up of offbeat backstage scenes with photographs of the campaign by Patrick Demarchelier. His collages juxtapose contemporary images with several black and white shots of women posing in Dior in the 1950s.

 Interferences and color saturations are the digital artist’s signatures.

 More about @bessnyc4, have a look on the interview we did few months ago. >>X<<

// WONDERMOOI //

Just a while ago, fashion designer Walter Van Beirendonck revealed his collaborative collection with Ikea. He encourages us to take the next step in the evolution of consciousness, in a world he feels empty of creativity and joy. In comes Glödande, a little universe located high in the sky. Its little creatures – WONDERMOOI - use magical cloud powder to bring back peace on earth and purity in our hearts.

Well, mission accomplished Walter, and dare we say warning: explicit beauty

The collection will be available in stores starting June 7th and on ikea.com.
