// SEA LEVEL //

Almine Rech brings together a series of works by two Brussels based artists, which both of them created in California in the aftermath of a mutual trip along the West Coast’s national parks.

 Jeap-Baptiste Bernadet’s Black Paintings are composed of a diluted mix of black and coloured paint, spread across the canvas with a sheet of paper, while Benoît Platéus’ negative sculptures form when horizontal layers of pigmented resin in vivid colours are poured into empty chemicals containers.

 Both series depend on a degree of randomness and unpredictability in the act of making to reveal a landscape of endless variations in colour and textured surfaces, open to projection and interpretation

50 years after Super 8 film was first launched by Eastman Kodak, the company teams up with San Francisco designer Yves Behar to kick off its Super 8 Revival Initiative.

 Their first prototype combines the classic features of the analogue Super 8 camera with digital functionality in a sleek and pared-back, updated version of the original models.

Dior Homme launches its SS 2016 campaign, photographed by Willy Vanderperre with Singer and lyricist Oliver Sim from the XX, actor Alain-Fabien Delon, artist Rinus Van de Velde & model Victor Nylander.

 The still images are accompanied by a film which is titled “Stranger in a Room” after a song of the same title by Sim’s bandmate Jamie xx, which actually features the bass-player’s vocals.

On Blackstar, to be released tomorrow on his 69th birthday, Bowie, like on many of his other records keeps on creating new personas, only this time the persona is himself. With this album Bowie reveals himself, but on his own conditions. Weaving stories, both emotive and personal, sometimes almost encoded, so the listener will get the atmosphere but is left with some missing clues, only for Bowie to know and reveal.

Blackstar is nevertheless a coherent, reflective and darker Bowie masterpiece.

“Series 4”, the SS 2016 collection campaign continues the visual dialogue between several artists of imagery, started with "series 1" 

Once again, the images comprise a triptych in which each section echoes and completes the other, weaving a narrative about a heroine whose multiple facets Nicolas Ghesquière wished to explore. The authors of this latest chapter are Juergen Teller, Bruce Weber and Square Enix, the Japanese video game and manga creator.

Each one expresses a point of view about the muses of a new era.

For his first solo show in Brazil, Belgian artist Rinus Van de Velde presents a site-specific work, composed of large format charcoal drawings and text captions.

Together they guide the viewer through the story he wants to tell, evoking the illusion of places, populated by characters spanning from a hallucinatory outsider living on an isolated island, to a 19th century sculptor.

// GIVENCHY SS16 Campaign //

Riccardo Tisci unveiled his new SS16 campaign captured by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott. Featuring an all-star cast of 27 models, the campaign reflects the theme of the Marina Abramoviç-directed New York Fashion Week show, all about "LOVE".

Accompanying images of the models, is a poem by singer Antony Hegarty, now known as Anohni: “I am a child on the river, and love waits downstream,” it reads. “A waterfall to steal my breath, and change my mind.”

“He’s a poetic person. In a few words, he said everything,” said Tisci, speaking on Hegarty’s text.
