Congratulations on Euphoria! Were you already a fan of the show?
I'm a huge fan of Sam [Levinson] and his wife, Ashley [also executive producer on the show]; they are incredibly talented. I knew that they shot on film, but I've never experienced anything like that before. It was so special to me, watching A-cam and B-cam reload in the middle of a scene, how fast they do it, and Sam showing me the shots and how gorgeous everything was. It was all very satisfying as an actor. There was a lot of freedom in the role, in improvising.
What can we expect from your character?
She's a small part of a bigger story. I don't know what I'm allowed to say yet, but it's a very fun storyline. There are so many people in this new season; it's an incredible cast. I'm just lucky to be part of it. The outfits were great; everything was vintage. There were some amazing nails!

What does being part of this universe mean to you?
Euphoria has impacted many people's careers in a positive way. They've all taken off from this project and grown so much as actors. I'm completely enamoured by Jacob [Elordi]; he's such a wonderful force, and the same with Zendaya. It feels like Euphoria has been a movement in our industry, in our age. I was on the tube when I got the call, coming back from visiting family. It was 6 pm, and they said I had to be on a plane the next morning to head back to L.A. and start filming. There was no hesitation, but I didn't know what to expect. It's a bit daunting when people have been working together for such a long time, but we just wanted to learn from each other. We were all feeding off each other, improvising with movement, words, everything.

Growing up in a family of artists, was there a lot of encouragement for you to become an actor?
I think for me and my sister Odessa [A'zion], it was an internal desire. Our mum [actress, writer, and director Pamela Adlon] is incredible, and she's our role model. She's been supporting her family with acting since she was nine. When I think back on becoming an actor, it was an intense obsession that started with musical theatre. Afterwards, it was the theatre in general. Then I did slam poetry, and I was a ballerina for a long time, but I had a skiing accident, and it all went out of the window. I went to college for photography – I was and still am very entranced by photojournalism. But I always loved performing, and Odessa loved it too, so we did it our way. There was never any pressure. If anything, I think our mum wanted us to do something different, but we fell in love with it just the same as she did.

You have experimented with various genres, and, like your mother, you also voice act. How different does that feel from other forms of acting?
Voice acting has been a godsend. I love it because it serves as a creative outlet when you're not filming, and it becomes a community. I’m the lead in a new Star Wars animated series [Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord]. It’s a new world where it’s me [voicing Devon Izara] and Darth Maul; it’s beautiful. It's been so much fun to be part of this universe; we have Comic Con coming up, and I've never experienced that, so I'm trying to spruce up my Star Wars knowledge. There's a lot! [Laughs]

What would you love to explore on camera that you haven't had a chance to yet?
I've been acting for eight years now, but it's only the beginning. I want to experience all genres while I can. I've been writing and developing a film of my own with an amazing team. I did a pilot for a show in October [Worried], produced by Barry Jenkins and adapted from a New York Times bestselling novel called Worry. Feels like the right things are rolling again. I never wanted to be boxed in, but a goal would be to do a period piece – and also a romance.

You have an amazing vintage collection. How has this love shaped your style?
I’ve created a community around it and made some of my closest friends because of it. It's so fun to find a modern piece and mix it with something old. I can dress more masculine, more feminine, I can mix a Victorian piece with a jacket from the ‘70s or old fucked-up T-shirts with a velvet cape. The most interesting thing about my closet now is that I just pull pieces out – they are all from different times, from the ‘20s to the ‘70s – and it still feels like a modern outfit. Right now, I'm wearing an old football jersey, my grandfather's jacket, and vintage slacks. And it feels good.
